THE MAKERY

about the makery

The Makery is ART-I-DOTE's public Makerspace/Art studio that is built for hue. This space provides a framework for people to come and make it their temporary studio for creative making. It focuses on the importance of having an accessible outlet for the arts where this creative process becomes the catalyst for emotional and social healing.

It is also a space where artists can come to hold workshops, art therapists can roam to interact with those that seek help.

The Makery is located on a new proposed level above level one. It was important that this new level demonstrated a new form that is politely inserted so that both the existing and extant can live in unison.

The Makery Kit of Parts

At the heart of The Makery is the communal makerspace table which stretches along the entirety of the floor and takes the shape of custom curves that offer organic fluidity which contrasts against the linear morphology of the WBPS.

Branching off from the communal makerspace table we have individual breakout tables for those that wish to create in solidarity/ in smaller groups.

Communal art supply shelves, storage and drying racks are also included in the Makery to truly make it a framework for a creative art studio.

Breakout seating are located along the edge curves of the level which provide refuge seating as nooks and hideaways are an important element of biophillic design.

Creative, industrial and slightly gritty, The Makery celebrates expression. Tones of yellow were chosen to boost the creative neurons in the brain, in conjunction with the materials themselves that encourage mess, vigour and collaboration.
